Since 2010, the Orange Foundation has been supporting the Arabkir United Children’s Foundation, which has been implementing a comprehensive project for the development of the capacities of doctors and other professionals to support children with autism.
As part of the project ArBeS Medical Center has developed branches outside Yerevan and provided training to hundreds of doctors, psychologists, teachers and others to identify signs of autism and provide support to families with such children. Accepted international standards for diagnostics and communication, such as ADOS and PECS, have been introduced to Armenia.
In the scope of the project, children with autism spectrum disorders are given the opportunity to participate with other children in summer camps, thus promoting their social skills and integration.
In 2013, the project is developing Children’s Polyclinic N 9 in Yerevan as a pilot primary healthcare institution which will provide public support to families of children with autism. The vocational education of children with autism is yet another component of this multi-dimensional project being developed in 2013.
